Went to a concert at a casino this evening, it was like watching minor league baseball as it was up and coming musicians. It was known as 'the K102 Class of 2011', and there were about 6 bands scheduled. But it was getting late, so I agreed with my date that we leave before the final act got started. We saw one of her 'country music friends' as we were leaving. She said 'we weren't following you'. First time seeing this friend, so of course we had to be introduced. This is just one of the four in the group, I had seen a picture of all of them. Thry all live in different towns. I recognized many of the covered songs, like 'Won't Back Down' by Tom Petty, 'Pink Houses' by Mellencamp, and 'Rock and Roll' by Led Zeppelin. The tickets were general admission, and free to her since she is on an 'advisory board'.
We did go to an art showcase at a cabaret in Minneapolis in the afternoon. Found out we did have enough time for both events, but left shortly after the performers were done even though there was time available to 'meet the artists'. As expected, some were better than others. The teenager playing the drums was quite good. So was the piano player, he played a Beethoven song on an electric piano. Unsure what the title is, but as I recall it's the song about a lost love.
We got another video watched, this time a baseball movie. I brought over 'Long Home Run', about the College World Series, with Kevin Costner as narrator. I got it in Omaha when I was there last year for the Series. Plenty of special features on it, which is common for DVDs.
