Saw the 1968 exhibit at the state's main museum in St. Paul earlier today. We saw the screening of a movie from that year first, 'Odd Couple'. I had seen it before, but it had been a while, and on cable. Liked having the chance to see it on a big screen. My dad likes Walter Matthau, who played Oscar, if due to this role it would be since he plays an everyman in it. The character is more likeable than Felix, the fussy one, played by Jack Lemmon. I know he liked to say 'Oscar Madison' whenever we were drinking directly out of the milk carton, as that was the slob roommate's name. It was just as likely in reference to the TV show, which was done later and lasted 5 seasons in the 1970s, but it had different actors- Jack Klugman and Tony Randall. We finished the actual exhibit just minutes before it was closing for the day. It brought back many memories from what I read in history books, like the iconic photos from the Vietnam war, especially the Tet offensive. There was also the one from the medals stand at the Olympic Games in Mexico City. Some events weren't in any of the history books I had read. Nice to see some Charlie Brown and Snoopy items in it. There was also times when I mentioned TV shows and movies covering this era, like a special episode of the 'Jeffersons' which offered up newspaper headlines when going back to that year. I also mentioned 'Forrest Gump'. We had thought of seeing the 150 exhibit again, since it closes soon, but it meant going with priority. It was nice how the movie screening was included with the price of admission.
