i watched a DVD movie this afternoon, a recent purchase from family dollar, 'how stella got her groove back'. i recognized whoopi goldberg in it. there are times i had evoked this title, especially in reference to finding a job again after being with the same company for a while. now i understand better why the movie was given such a title. in fact the main character does go through a job loss, so it is about more than just meeting a love interest after getting divorced. i knew the movie had to be pre-9/11 as she sees her son off at the airport, in the terminal. this is a 'chick flick' and it does end the way it is expected to end when it is a romantic comedy. memorable scenes were of the sibling that is an ambulance driver.
i was up early much like the previous day as i needed to be in order to return the rental car. i still looked around the airport a little before getting on the light rail back to my own car. i also decided to get my souvenirs from new ulm better organized, after getting home, and it meant placing them neatly into a small brown paper bag. at midday i went to a booya soup feed, sponsored by a catholic church, at a park. there was a line for it but the line moved fairly well. i got a small bowl of it but i am familiar with how some really load up on it, getting out plastic ice cream containers to fill it with soup. after getting back i ate a little at home, all i had at the park was the soup. i had some corn chips and blonde brownies. then i put in the movie. after it was done i knew i was tired so i laid down for a while. when i woke up i knew it was time to get on the road, to the mall in roseville, in order to get pictures from a photo booth there. i did better this time on holding up a sign saying it was 'during a pandemic, new ulm oktoberfest weekend' than the previous year. it helped that i wrote the letters a little smaller. it was nearly 6pm by then and some stores were starting to close as i was leaving. i had the evening meal and then called my college roommate, the one that lives in the area. later on i called my dad and said i found the brick i had bought a year earlier. he spoke of watching 'ozzie and harriet' and asked if i had seen the clint eastwood 'macho movie' yet, i haven't. i also went on a walk and found 1 dollar 31 cents. and i got the dishes done around the typical time, during the 10pm news.
