At the grocery store tonight I heard the song 'Allison Road' by the Gin Blossoms. It did remind me of being in college and attending their concert at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. 'I did not know I was lost at the time' was a lyric from it. I think it was on one more than one album, the breakthrough one called New Miserable Experience, and an earlier one. After driving back from the comedy club tonight I liked hearing 'Hello' by Adele, it has been played often since its recent release. Before the first show I attended, where Big Dog was headliner, they played an Eminem song that mentioned 'little too late'. Number 25, Wee bit, and Sub teacher were at the second show at another club. I also went to the Church Basement Ladies play in Plymouth this afternoon. I had seen number 4 and 5 in the series and they are repeating number 1. It started in June and its run wraps up in a week.
At the first comedy show, the MC did ones about a pregnant lesbian, ginger bear, Montana, not good at being gay, adopted dog, bucket, dumpster, mermaid, hockey, and Nancy Kerrigan. A newer comic, recently moved from Knoxville, TN, apparently, did ones about I'm Jim now, liquor store, and owner's birthday. Ragu did ones about Yelp reviews, Mom and Dad own restaurant, throw the remote, low energy home invasion, Allman Brothers, red shirt at Target, and sister in NYC. Long straw did ones about a gay brother, Wisconsin wedding, Catholic singles, British soap opera, 4 family divorces, not drunk just lazy, blockbuster video, Rick Flair, power washing a Buick, love hate with Beloit, Casey's General Stores, and dueling banjos. Others were about priest blessing, childhood insult, too many feelings, Carly Rae Jepsen, Barnes and Noble, Winston Churchill, Weekend at Bernie's, Casper the ghost, full fridge clean bathroom, meals on wheels, bachelor pad, rotten bananas, Prius, Ferrari, bored with porn, Sesame Street, and MOA massage.
Big Dog did ones about a bartender (where I got a shout out), Boys To Men, bad on phone, a lot of cobra, take and bake pizza, tortilla soup, goth chicks, drink arrived, Gary, IN, hotel, hoodie and shoes, offensive furniture, antique water pump, metronome, Bruno Mars, and jackalope. Others were about having a baby, 2 against 1, People magazine, Us, You, swear at foreigner, and shakes hand with crowd member. Next was Wisconsin billboard, Life Goes On, buy own groceries, erotic novel, chivalry is dead, and pregnant lady jogging. Finally there was 2 liter Coke bottle, Gonzo Muppet, Gary Busey, yellow walls dirty blanket, Dahmer, Menendez brothers, real estate brokers, steaming gargoyle, prostitute metaphor, and Gallagher concert.
Second show had sub teacher as MC. He did ones about Dad at MOA, homeless defensive coordinator, Connecticut summer home, adopt a highway, play house play tag, amazing race, weddings and porn, keep enemies closer, FDR and Eleanor, Chanhassen wedding, singing at crime scene, Pilate, Musketeer, angry grandpa, not enough disrespect, German porn, Tiny Freud, and a song for everything. Wee bit did a guest set. He did ones about the art of failure, gun I stare at, generic cereal, jaywalking college students, and basting a turkey. Number 25 was feature, I know she is not in town much now. She did ones about grab back fat, wanting to laugh, crossing arms, bit inside of cheek, it's your funeral, long distance relationship (probably a shout-out), she's so catholic, U of M theater major, witness protection program, and expired whipping cream. Others were about a civilized drink, meat and potatoes, vegan gluten free café, old crabby lady, Coachella, bare midriff, dancer, softball leagues, cheese is good, aged gouda, laughing cow, new kids on the block novels, basketball hi-top and pizza, triple espresso, and he whipped it out.
The headliner had a tye-dye cat shirt. Jokes were about Olive Garden bathroom, up for some round ball, GI Joe, cookie at Subway, 3rd grade taunt, middle kid, 1 of 7 kids, wholesale mortgage lender, it all happened this morning, it's quiet at the office, temp agency, and married with 2 kids. Others were about Frozen movie, parents, pedophiles, mild inconvenience, mostly 1st kid pictures, date night, Redbox movie night, notes on a scandal, trail mix, 2 percent milk, oatmeal rock, and tent vendor. Next was question and surrender, new year resolution, parade of midgets, she wants a little farm, keep those inside, what breed of cat, and promoting his shirt.
