I went to the St. Paul Saints game tonight, final one at Midway Stadium. I was inside before first pitch, but wanted plenty of photos before I sat down, and some food as well. St. Paul went ahead 2-0 in the 1st, apparently on a 2-run home run but I didn't see it. Both St. Paul and Winnipeg scored a single run in the 4th to make it 3-1. Winnipeg got a 3-run home run in the 7th to make it 4-3. St. Paul had runners on in the 9th but couldn't score, so the Saints lost 4-3 to the Goldeyes. During the game
I spotted a comedian friend in costume, and called out his name, he is a Philadelphia native as I recall. Thrilled that we both got photos of each other, and I had some of his popcorn.
And there was the music. during the game, 'Girls just wanna have fun', Cyndi Lauper. At the end of the game, 'End of the world as we know it' by REM. In an after-game event, including food trucks, before the fireworks, 'So hard to say goodbye', Boys 2 Men. During the fireworks, 'Time of your life', Green Day. and 'Can't hardly wait', Replacements. The last event at Midway Stadium will be a Replacements concert next month. When their song was played it reminded me of a colleague at the office that died of cancer in 2008, as the song was a favorite of his and mentioned at the funeral. This event was part of the 'two funerals and a wedding' that got me into comedy. I saw kids getting samples of the dirt from the pitching mound after the game. It reminded me of footage from when kids did this at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn when the Dodgers were moving to Los Angeles. But of course this team is just moving across town, 6 miles to Lower-Town. Some wanted posed photos at the pitching mound and home plate. It was a sellout crowd, over 9,000, the snow fences were up like for a 4th of July fireworks game. There was one-dollar beers, I had one, it is called 'North Lake Brewing'. Caught a seat cushion thrown into the crowd, it is orange with white letters.
