The walk this afternoon included a stop at the library to return a book. I work in downtown St. Paul, so it meant going to the James J. Hill reference library near Rice Park and the Xcel Energy Center. One doorway had the name Otto Bremer on it. My guess it is the same family as Marie Schmidt Bremer, the beer heiress. I know Bremer is the name of a bank as well. I was not the one that needed to return the book though. It would be a friend of the event coordinator, and I don't know her that well aside from both attended one of my comedy shows, the contest night I did this summer. I don't go to this library too often, and one of the times I was there before was to try to find a Snoopy statue. The answer I got was that the statue was moved to another library, where it is one of two seen in the glass from the street.
I also got stage time at two different clubs tonight. I was essentially the show closer at the second, as all that was performed after me was a big sing-along. One crowd member tried to talk to me after my set at the second venue but I didn't hear her that well. Something about appreciate the effort, and like how you're not like most comics, who are putting down everything.
Crow did ones about mature porn and it's got to hurt. Others were about cross country, chess club, Samurai sword, Gilbert Grape, and police record. Locks of love did ones about mental illness and menopause, Quiet Riot, the Gambler, and Ren-fest reader. Extra murder did ones about sugar mama, tax time, house cleaning, Saturday night fever, Ben Franklin, hedge maze, and topless protest. Fancy comic did ones about swam in ocean, walked in desert, Chubby Checker, Cassius Clay, Bruce Lee, Green Giant, MNF commercial, Guthrie Theater, King Kong, Obama, fantasies, and kiss in mirror. Godmother did ones about babysitting, The Price is Right, married at first sight, house hunters, panic room, back rubs, and yoga at church. A member of the Turkeys, I recall from a pepperoni bit, did ones about go through phone, snooze sorry, spray bottle, pizza delivery, age 42, and Craigslist jobs. University accountant did ones about an office microwave, navel, hand in Pringles can, Hillary, Guiness, free solitaire, Puff the magic dragon, eating an apple, call Paul, taxi to thrift store, and role play. Taller of the brothers did ones about cool guy does drugs, appendix, alien movies, Columbus, groundskeeper, wedding photographer, and join a band. Software developer did ones about call her Lexus, vanity plate, Ho Chi Minh, 2 monsters, and Motel 6. Shorter of the brothers did ones about Monopoly cheat, midget fight, cat fell, stork, donate sperm, eat, fight fire, driver-ed teacher, and fortune cookie. Laundry did ones about hot dogs, dog whistles, bakery prison hooker, idioms or cliches, calligraphy, pianist, kids not here tonight, sex and consequences, and the movie It.
Second club. rumor rapper did a dedication, in memory, and make me frown can't break me down. Good music all around after this one. I heard ones like 'What I got' by Sublime, you can say what you want, feeling all right, respect, a violin player, cocaine by Eric Clapton, Alive by Pearl Jam, watch tower, and Bye bye blackbird.
