this morning i put in a DVD movie, a recent purchase from amazon, 'walk hard'. this was a 'mock-umentary' about a fictional singer, dewey cox. i recognized some of the things being satirized or parodied in it, especially from the johnny cash bio-pic. the running gag about the wrong son died was definitely from 'walk the line'. in the second half of the movie i was laughing uncontrollably, not sure why. but i know there was another running gag about ripping bathroom sinks from the wall. i am reminded of what a teacher in high school said about laughing at a parody of 'cool hand luke'. it was funnier because of having seen what was being lampooned. and it was nice seeing some musicians appearing as themselves, including pearl jam front-man eddie vedder. before the movie i went to aldi for groceries. after the movie i went to german days at the german institute on summit avenue in st. paul. it took a while to find parking but i found it at cathedral hill, next to the curling club. it was a part of town i hadn't seen before. and i got a picture of a lucy statue in boyd park, it was one that had been moved from a downtown church. i had cream soda and a pork steak sandwich at the festival. and i got a look inside the building, where some model trains were on display on the upper level. there was a bus showing german history in america as well. some of the music, especially the 'ziggy ziggy', reminded me of attending oktoberfest in new ulm. after i got home i laid down for a while. during my walks i found 3 dollars 14 cents.
