the hill movie, dennis quaid

in the afternoon i went to see a movie in eagan, 'the hill' starring dennis quaid. it was a baseball bio-pic. no surprise i went to it when i like baseball a lot and bio-pics. this one does stand out from the others as i lightly clapped more than once during it and wiped away tears more than once as well. starting off the movie with the song 'china grove' by the doobie brothers while the main character is driving a mustang was brilliant. this was a song that was in another baseball movie, 'field of dreams'. other songs of note were church music, 'old rugged cross' and how great thou art'. both were played at the funerals of my grandparents. since the main character's dad is a preacher, no surprise how some of it would be church music. liked it even though i knew how it would end, where rickey hill only plays in the minors. the bit part played by hall of famer john smoltz was poorly written and seemed un-necessary to me. smoltz essentially played himself, a baseball announcer, i would like to think this movie will get some award nominations, especially for quaid's role as the preacher dad. even though sports movies usually don't win awards. in addition, awards are over-rated when not everybody gets to vote on them and the award winners usually aren't the biggest ticket sellers. after the movie i had a pumpkin pie blizzard at the nearby dairy queen.

it started off as a busy day for me, going to the post office, one order was picked up. then i went to the office and did two hours of overtime. i probably could have run those checks through on tuesday, after the holiday. especially when they won't go out until tuesday. but i know that overtime isn't offered that much and i liked having it done and out of the way. i made the time count, running over three thousand checks through the machine, enough to fill two mail tubs. by then it was close to midday so i drove to jersey mike's and got a sandwich. now i have enough points to get a free sandwich on my next visit. then after a short time at home i went to see the movie. after i got back i went to aldi for groceries, and the liquor store as well. i got a bottle of heineken, and this week drank the can of udofot, so there still are four beers waiting. i watched some of the Fox baseball game of the week, twins-rangers from texas, but laid down in the middle of it and fell asleep. sounds like the twins won. during my walks i found 1 dollar 40 cents.
