Crock Pot and Miller Lite

At the comedy club tonight, after the show I saw a Crock Pot next to a Miller Lite beer bottle on a table outside. Not sure why it was there, but I decided to get a picture of it. I also got a photo of the comic I call 'Red'- while she was performing. I did do jokes about the crazy lady I met last week, and one about attending my cousin's wedding. I led off with a reference to Mr. Pibb's set, since he spoke of music, and spoke of the song 'Eleanor Rigby' by the Beatles. Wisconsin girl said she would be sharing photos with me on Facebook, it has piqued my interest. She was a performer tonight as well.
Also at the comedy club, International Falls did ones about birth control pills, casual sex, caress hair in bathroom, short cop, bathroom pictures, day 246 of no HR, and changing emergency contact to Prince. Woody did ones about an ax shop, heroin deaths, and eight dollars at a co-op. Fish noodle did ones about drive a semi to Illinois, remove poisonous people, and Pontiac Sunfire ninja. The
Wisconsin girl did ones about neighbors and puberty, Harlequin romances, hide baby, bald eagles, bottle rockets, gone Ren, kettle corn, and having a coffee camper. Blind Side did ones about Saginaw and Bemidji, and no respect at office. Mr. Pibb did ones about Pokémon evolve, Led Zeppelin, Nicki Minaj, and the song '3am' by Matchbox 20. Red did ones about Little Mermaid, tampons and diapers, a Stalin pun, and My Fair Lady. Sub teacher did ones about dating married women, Obama and Iraq, a 7-iron, kittens, and FDR. A newer comic did one about an online video blackmail. Note page did ones about sexy lumberjacks, cigarette evolution, and bread and tortilla. The Crow did ones about Twitter followers, suicide is illegal, mature porn, dating criteria, depression, and cut teeth or wrist. Postage stamp did ones about New York tricycles, parade candy, a million dollar bill, and don't be a hater. Another comic spoke of catcalls.
I am still a little behind on errand running due to being out of town this weekend. So I did the dishes and recycle after checking email and eating.

Mentor Also Performs

I had the first meeting through a mentoring program at my employer this afternoon. I liked finding out the mentor also is a performer, jazz musician. This should make things easier for me- somebody who understands what it is like to go onstage.
At the comedy club tonight, the cheerleader from Chicago was show closer. I said I wanted to see the Annie Hall subtitles to know what she was thinking when some other comics after the show were discussing the definitions of entourage and orgy. I let Maryland know that if he refuses to have his own entourage, then he will be in mine.
Also at the comedy club, Brawler did ones about car break-in, Ike and Tina, X-box, an apartment fire, and renters insurance. Wisconsin girl did ones about improve class, and a bald eagle. Extra murder did ones about a food truck, donut burger, tax day, and his sister getting married in Maui. Sub teacher did ones about Mall of America, a tiny Freud, a gig in South Dakota, dad at the mall, and a Connecticut home. Postage stamp did ones about a million dollar bill, parade candy, and sidewalk cafes. Fever comic did ones about birth control, Ritalin, Netflix password, and Civil War general. Mr. Pibb did ones about clowns and commitment, and IUD. University accountant did ones about Flavor Flav, 99 problems, yearbook photo, and 30 best things. Louisiana did ones about a grocery line, jail, a therapist, and a concussion. Three by three did ones about a warning flare, Minnesota nice, 20 years ago, and live like a king. Wee bit did ones about a sniper rifle, a dildo, and Chucky Cheese. Maryland did ones about a hockey game, a fight, Nike and Adrian Peterson, Urkel, a mall gang, a gas station, Disney movies, and yoga pants. Perkins did ones about a Craigslist bike, and camping with his lady. Chicago cheerleader did ones about CVS, Clooney, Medicaid, ribs in fridge, Famous Dave's, Walmart, Hobby Lobby, and watching 'Frozen'.

WI Mousehouse Cheesehaus

I began the day at my hotel in Janesville, WI, and after having continental breakfast I packed up and checked out. My first stop, after getting fuel in Janesville, was at Mousehouse Cheesehaus, west of Madison. The receipt said it was in a town called Windsor. I bought some sausage and cheese in a bag there. I ate it quickly in my car. I also got Chicago Bears football trading cards, postcards, and a magnet, showing a mouse eating cheese. It did rain off and on during my drive, at first shortly after I got started and let up before Madison. Then it was heavy again around Eau Claire, and finally as I was entering the Twin Cities metro area. This was one of three stops, as I also stopped in Tomah for lunch, and Menomonie for the bathroom, and an ice cream sandwich.
After arriving back home just after 4pm, I rested for a short time and got groceries, then went to return the rental car. I arrived at the comedy club in the evening and saw the D.C. native perform as
the MC. School bouncer was there as well, but not to perform.
D.C. did ones about a cellphone, one year sober, car filled up with vodka, an orphanage without compassion, the number joke, rate your nausea, dad and sports, NBA game, Spanish words, wave at a football game, Bruce Jenner, liberals eating their own, rock bottom, and rehab after Super Bowl. A guest set was done by a comic known for initials. He did ones about where are you going?, alphabet, marriage, strip club, make it rain, cupcakes, cartoon tats, and voicemail. The feature is from Phoenix. He did ones about weed and munchies, being adopted, Bocce ball, a pregnant neighbor, crowd rap, military personnel, and couples game night. D.C. returned and did ones about eat and get a shirt, 100 hot dogs, roommate agreement, fried chicken,  back at the gym, water fake plant, Catholic school sex-ed, and Top Gun.
Headliner is from New York. He did ones about a Twitter post, time machine, pregnancy scare, hit reset button, Michael Jordan, mom like a bill collector, Little Mermaid, hide gun, Build a Bear, Steph Curry, missing kids, reality TV, I'm sassy, CNN, groceries, Arizona ice tea, Skittles, DARE program, and rioting.
I thought of my grandma's brother after seeing his photo in uniform this weekend, and found his listing online at Ancestry dot-com. It was sad to be reminded of how he died so young, just nineteen,  during World War Two. Also because it was in Germany in March 1945, after the Yalta conference which was in February. The war was essentially over in Europe just over a month later, when Hitler killed himself. The paper said his body was finally returned to the USA for burial in August 1948, more than three years later. I recalled seeing his grave when I was young, it said beside his name and his birth and death dates was 'He gave his life for his country'.

Circus Museum, Cousin's Wedding

I started the day in Madison and after continental breakfast I made my way to Baraboo and saw the Circus Museum. I learned something there, as I usually do at museums. There were many Ringling brothers in the circus business, more than five! I knew I couldn't stay for long. I left around 12noon so I was there for under two hours, but did get a smashed penny souvenir, as well as a magnet and some postcards. After heading to Walgreen for some razors and an ice cream sandwich, it was on the road to my cousin's wedding in Evansville, WI. I made it with just under 20 minutes to spare. I got changed in the bathroom, where I identified myself as 'The cousin from Minnesota'. I didn't have much time to talk, didn't feel like saying much else. My cousin happened to be the groom. The bride was funny in the ceremony, which lasted about 40 minutes. I checked into my hotel in Janesville after it, knowing the reception would be about 2 hours later. I fielded questions about where I was staying, but didn't say where as I wanted to be left alone when I am at the hotel. I arrived at the reception site, not at the Lutheran church but at a tavern, just as things were starting at 5pm. I happened to be one of the 'Single people prize winners', so according to legend this means I am the next one to get married. I liked visiting with so many people there, one was the wife of another cousin, who said we hadn't met yet. I was flattered when she spoke so well of me, based on what she was told, saying I was smart. The oldest cousin, out of three, was interested in how I do stand-up comedy. I am still not sure who all in the family knows about it. I did get out there to dance a little, at one point at the behest of the bride. I did when I found something I wanted to dance to, it was line dancing. Then later on when 'Bust a move' by Young MC was playing, as I am wearing an 'Up in the Air' movie hat. The song was in the movie, and the movie depicts a wedding in Wisconsin, where I am at. Earlier I did participate in the dollar dance, and I told the bride I was having a good time at the event. I said I would notify if being a 'Prize winner' yields anything, but my dating life has been nonexistent lately. The low point was during the dollar dance, told myself I can't dance to 'The dance' by Garth Brooks. It makes me think of Bill Young. He made me laugh, but thinking of my departed friend from the comedy circuit still makes me sad. So I waited and danced to a different song. I liked how my mom's cousin from California was there, somebody I had met during a visit to Anaheim in 1994. She brought family pictures, mostly people I barely knew or didn't know at all. I took pictures on my own camera of some of them, including one of my grandma's brother in his military uniform, who died in World War Two. Others were one family picture that includes a great aunt who does some paintings, finally got one after my grandma passed in 2008, a dinner plate. Most of my family has at least one of her paintings. I liked how I went into this event with the right mindset- try to have a good time- and I did.

Comedy Club On State, Madison

I headed out of state this weekend to attend my cousin's wedding in Wisconsin. I saw some things along the way, one of them was a comedy show in Madison at the Comedy Club on State. One of the over twenty comedy CDs I own that were done by friends was recorded there, one of two done by the Wisconsin girl. I made it to the first of two shows tonight. MC did ones about documentaries, guess the cheese, Colorado, coffee grounds, an alien name, brushing hair, and a urinal. Feature is from Illinois, the town I call Lincoln-land, but now lives in Raleigh, NC. He did ones about bar games, his lady's birthday, mom a nurse, a soccer ad on TV, Dolphins poster, Red Badge of Courage, Chicago free clinic, Dos Equis, stolen phone, sweet Caroline, and church.
Headliner did ones about Berenstain Bears, princess, mermaid, mildly depressed, crayons, vodka and a gun, Russian mom, work in a record store, keep you warm, live with dudes, catcalls in New York, P90X toilet seat, board planes early, Colonial Williamsburg, internet dating, undies, Waffle House, country music, listen to Korn, Ren-Fest, Henry 8, NPR, Churchill, FDR, I have a cat, sell the shirt, and crowd rap. Sounds like a CD was being recorded, and I haven't been a part of this too often.
We spoke after the show, she lives in LA now and we have some of the same friends, including the Wisconsin girl.
I also want to get a smashed penny souvenir, like at the circus museum in Baraboo, don't have one from this state yet. I made it to the museum just after 5pm. It had just closed for the day, but I can try again sometime this weekend.

Buck Fifty Lunch

I was really busy with work so I got something from the vending machine for lunch instead of heating up the can of soup I had brought. It was Doritos, and Planters fruit and nut trail mix. It was just a buck fifty for these items, and it was enough to keep me going. I had a regular dinner when I got home, heating up a Michelina's meal and microwave popcorn as well. I bought the popcorn, and some cough drops, at Walgreen before I got on the bus home. I didn't use my voice much at work, but I noticed that, in my opinion anyway, my voice sounded awful at the comedy club tonight. Bathtub was headliner and School bouncer was MC, radio personality was the middle. So all three are in my 'Ring of honor'. It was also a contest night, three showed up. A comic from St. Cloud won tonight, he said he followed me at Tuesday's contest. After the show I was near School bouncer and Bathtub next to the merchandise table, and one crowd member said she liked hearing my laugh. Once again I had a soft drink instead of beer because of my voice. I am hopeful that it is fine by the time of the wedding I am attending this weekend. I did watch a rerun of 'Big Bang Theory' tonight before leaving for the club. It was the one where Bob Newhart, playing Professor Proton, was Obi-Wan on Star Wars day.
School bouncer did ones about be funny, unfair exchange, check the fridge, single sex, Beyonce, Nicki Minaj, stay-cation, grocery store, French silk pie, ice cream and nachos, loads of laundry, some assembly required bike, compliments to kids, I don't need you, Serena Williams, and can't stand paperwork.
Radio personality did ones about Bagger Vance, everybody is fine, and houseguests. Others were about Anne Frank, The Borrowers, rock lawn, can I pet you?, Rain Man reference, more popsicles, apple orchard, passive aggressive friends, don't be a crazy mom, rage sale, get a puppet, cargo pants, Ellen DeGeneres, Facebook intro, gangster squirrels, need to see a receipt, Sarah Mac, Ted Nugent, sword collection, Jackie Chan, land line, co-parenting, and toothbrush.
Bathtub did ones about contest semi-finals, new-age mom, activate rivers, summon buffalo, State Farm, penguin, white water rafting, play clarinet, Lisa Simpson, Star Wars, lava lamp, hamsters, cut down tree, cable TV, dinner guests, bird nest, 2 dogs, Instagram, rescue dogs, dog clothes, and swim move. Others were about pepper plant, Lord of the Rings, could have shared, chicken wire, sister at Harvard, back in dream, wedding anniversary, Barnes and Noble, shoplifting, the book and movie, proposals, spell check, pulling over, customs, grill cheese, rat burial, stolen baby, paper doll, and
Men's Wear-house.

Smells Like Nirvana, Weird Al

I read how actor Dick Van Patten died, it was mentioned on Facebook. Many spoke of his role on
the TV show 'Eight is Enough' but I was more familiar with his later work, such as the 'Smells like Nirvana' music video by Weird Al Yankovic. It was a parody of Nirvana's 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'.
At the comedy club tonight, I did more stories of my life through music. But it was harder for me to perform as I had a scratchy throat, still hoarse from talking to numerous people after my contest night. The show runner did songs that mention battlefields, respect and fame, courage and blood. This was followed by this fight is not worth fighting, shine your shoes, no time to lose. A comic who had greeted me before (and we spoke of the wild west) did ones about visit the dollar store, is from San Diego, we have Jimmy John's, worked in fast food, playing pickup basketball, and the flute section. next performer did one about soups and gravy, suffocated, and sounded like heavy metal. It was the last show for the front-man, as he is moving to Oregon. Show runner returned with won't take you for granted, these broken arms will hold you still, cheapest whiskey tale, we've had enough, nothing but hope, orchestra playing for us, ain't no rest for the wicked, bills to pay, money don't grow on trees. A rapper did one about how can I be so happy when I don't have you. It was followed by struggle, I hope everything goes right, are you happy to be alive?, and celebration of life. A newer comic did ones about catcalling, bridal shop, Planned Parenthood, bathrooms, and weed. A British band was next, the front-man is getting married soon, band is called 'Sand river' if I am not mistaken. They did ones about calling me a liar, a thief, a villain. This was followed by did you being me silver and gold, and one of them played guitar behind his head. At the break, I heard a recorded version of the classic
song 'Radar love'.

Chocolate Graham Crackers

I often get one discount table item when I go to the grocery store for my weekly order. This week it was chocolate graham crackers. They taste all right, low sugar. It is the Shur Fine store brand from suburban Chicago. I once lived there, so I like seeing the home office listed on the box. There are two, Elk Grove Village and Skokie. I haven't had graham crackers in a while, as readers know I like getting the animal crackers most of the time.
Tonight at the comedy club I did the contest. It was the final preliminary round. I felt good about giving it my all, and was pleased how eight office colleagues were in my cheering section. I did not advance, but I knew it would be hard to do. I was the second one called, it was a random draw. After the show many said they liked my set, I felt good about it. The D.C. native and Sub Teacher were two of the judges, I understand D.C. is in town for a weeklong gig. I spoke about music at the bar at one point, and got annoyed with another patron who wasn't on the same page as me. I blew them off and went back into the showroom, and this patron eventually found we and wanted to talk at the bar. But it largely proved to be a waste of time aside from getting some comedy material out of it. So my first impression was correct, and I am not sure why I give people second chances as often as I do.

Donut Queen

At the comedy club tonight, Resistable comic was dressed up as the donut queen and was show closer. This was the lone photo of mine from the show. I did claim one donut after Danger Zone said she wanted them to get eaten, they were on the welcome table.
Also at the comedy club, No Shame did ones about 5 bed-room in Minnetonka, Live Links, you are not Muslim, vanilla Starbucks, and shrooming. Brew did ones about dental floss, yoga mats, unicorns, sky diving, before we have sex, and hiding condoms. D.C. comic did ones about identify as liberal, eating their own, slut shaming, male feminist, men are doing OK, it's the phones, guys need to do that, he got sober, rock bottom, and TP houses. A comic I will call 'C-note' as he was wearing a shirt with $100 prints also did ones about look good tonight, and bit of a rascal. Others were about opinions on 'Law and Order', gross and lazy, over-reactor, not a costume, and sweat socks. Stillwater did ones about began drinking as a teenager, keep track of them, happy to see me, and pointed to my place. Turtle Check did ones about read it while pooping, mom put it in a shrine, a 12 gauge in the mail, kick like a mule, signed a City Pages copy, special team plays, Hi-No at home depot, Rosie O'Donnell, and built a cabin. Others were about ultimate fighting, softball, Buffalo Wild Wings, and back tattoo. Fish noodle did ones about only eat healthy when sick, ordering buffalo wings, walking away from poisonous people, E-harmony ads, eloping, and secret agent. Resistable did ones about a Brian Wilson movie, seeing a therapist, doesn't like her dad, a vibrator competition, a relationship, Steve Martin, John Waters, Wild Wild West, Will Smith, 102.5 radio station, was in H.R., tested positive for everything, 50 Shades of Grey books, 19 miscarriages, adopting a highway, open a coffee shop, Baltimore comedy scene, Fergie, Rita Orr, Margaritaville, no longer internet dating, grocery store, Perkins, and feed my cats. The show runner gave me a shout-out, saying I had a Penguin laugh like Burgess Meredith.
At work I was really busy with my normal duties, as there was a bumper crop of new titles. So it meant there was no time to do letters. Due to the Saints game Sunday, I asked my work spouse how often I had been cranky, and was told it had been a while. This felt good to me, as I really didn't want to be known for being cranky and hard to work with anyway.

Old Man, Neil Young

I think the song quoted last night at the movie theater was 'Old Man' by Neil Young. I did listen to another song of his, as it was recommended, called 'harvest moon', but it was a love song and it didn't do much for me.
It was another busy day of events, starting with German Fest at the former Schmidt brewery. This was after doing chores and errands like the dishes and getting groceries. I had a pork steak sandwich and some bottled water, then had some Dutch pancakes, little discs. Also bought two note cards of St. Paul landmarks, the St. Paul Hotel and Mancini's restaurant. Later on it was off to the Saints baseball game, the Saints beat Gary 9-3, plenty of home runs in it. I was getting cranky as the food lines were too long during the game. It started at 5pm but I don't usually eat that early. I like getting food before the game starts, especially if it is a 1pm or 7pm start. I decided to get some bottled water and a bag of peanuts, even though I wanted a chili cheese dog or chicken tenders more. Earlier I did drank a root beer, but it was warm so staying hydrated is important. I called my dad in the evening as it was Dad's Day and I figured he would like hearing about my time at the brewery. He did tell me some about Schmidt beer, with wildlife depicted on the cans.

Live From New York Movie

This evening I went to see the movie 'Live from New York', a documentary about Saturday Night Live, at the Edina theater. I liked it, worth seeing. No surprise how not all of the cast members were interviewed, as 40 years was being covered. It made sense to cover the original cast members from 1975-1980, as well as executive producer Lorne Michaels, who returned after a 5-year absence. At times I laughed, but I also wiped away a tear after seeing footage of 9/11. This was followed by the first show after it. And I agreed with one line in it, in response to a dust-up on social media after a sketch: 'If you don't like it, don't laugh at it'. I do comedy, and I know full well how no laughs speaks louder than anything else. After the movie I heard an employee quote a song, I said it is Neil Young if I am not mistaken as the line was 'Doesn't mean that much to me to mean that much to you'. I said I liked two Neil Young songs in particular, 'Searching for a heart of gold' and 'Rocking in the free world' and she said I would like 'Harvest moon' as well.
Also today, I picked up mail at my post office just before closing time. There were four E-bay orders, one of them was the 'Up In The Air' movie shirt and the other three were postcards. Then it was on to the library to print things. Since a Target store was nearby I went there to get two gifts for my cousin's wedding which is coming up. I bought four items as I saw there was a Charlie Brown and Snoopy display in the back, related to summer. So I got a placemat showing Charlie playing baseball, and a plastic cup with a lid showing Snoopy and Woodstock displaying American flags.
After I brought things home I went out again, to the Science Museum. After I parked I bought some popcorn at Candyland. I hate to admit that this was a lackluster visit. It started early, with getting a ticket, then finding out the free ticket I was given was good only for the movie and not the space exhibit. There was also a wait to see the movie, so I looked around at other parts of the museum and then ordered food. I didn't like how it was 'Plus tax' on the prices, too much of a surprise to me. I did see an employee I knew, somebody I have rode the bus with but her schedule changed recently due to one food outlet being closed for renovation. Then when I arrived at the space exhibit there was a wait to get in and a wait to see the International Space Station simulator. I was no doubt cranky after all of what happened. I recall thinking of two things at this exhibit. The first thing was how some subjects covered were also on 'Big bang theory'. The other was how I didn't like science classes as I didn't like the instructors. The latter was likely why it was harder to enjoy the exhibit. I do enjoy the ones at the Minnesota History Center more, as I majored in history.

Legend Or Fixture?

At the comedy club tonight, University Accountant gave me an intro to some new comics and was described as a 'Legend'. I said a classmate from high school has called me this as well. I said I like the term 'Fixture' more in terms of my standing in the Twin Cities comedy community. Good lineup, I was not on it though. I am thankful I made it through the show as I was tired, and considered staying home because of it. As I was driving home I was paranoid about being tired, as I am reminded of a classmate who died in a car wreck as he fell asleep at the wheel. But thankfully, nothing happened.
I liked hearing Mason City hold court after the show, telling us about his experiences working with various comics, many of them are or were famous. After this I heard Happy Meal and Chalm-Skinn discussing something related to comedy venues.
Also at the comedy club, International Falls did ones about a toilet seat, we have no HR, pictures of bathrooms, babies on Facebook, visiting parents, IUD pains, and Mom's Day poem. Tetris did ones about driving to Milwaukee, silk pajamas, his exes move, resume builder, and I heard a Taylor Swift reference. Fantasia did ones about wiping the floor, bought a desk, circumcised, she's with me, and role playing. Extra murder did ones about foreclosure, a police escort, Susan B. Anthony, house cleaners, his sister getting married to a rich dude, Denny's placemat, Elton John, food trucks, and donut burgers. Soap opera did ones about loves his mom, watch One Life To Live, soap operas did it, more ex- therapists, and already had sex.
Bus fare did ones about sharks at Mall of America, a Chipotle bully, build up a better life, Enya, Toby Keith, and Halliburton. The brothers were there. The shorter one did ones about hit and run, old folks home employee, keys in car, seaweed, and TP a house. The taller one did ones about already look homeless, sell the guitar, wedding photography, and bike on train. Ragu did ones about people you may know, Tinder, Springsteen concert, and weed party. Rut-roh did ones about the Allman Brothers, chopping onions, Foot Locker, interventions, playlist for sex, Mexican food, and spaghetti. Duffel bag did ones about look edible like fruit, and still lumpy. Long straw did ones about Carly Rae Jepsen, White Castle sliders, and airplane seats. Happy Meal did ones about is anyone a cop?, outlaw the word, and gravy.

Manufactured Rival?

I did another guest set tonight at the comedy club, same comic I opened for last year. It went well, I liked seeing some friends at the club who said they liked it. Bathtub said it flowed better than others he had seen. I would say this is true, as what I say is experience pays. I know by now what works and what doesn't. I knew two of the performers tonight, besides the headliner who is originally from Canada, and I went on after 3 entrants in the annual contest. Four were scheduled but there was a no-show. Postage stamp was MC, and Perkins was feature. Now I have to wonder if Perkins really is a 'Manufactured rival' since one former employee said he once referred to me as a friend. It can be hard to tell but I have decided to embrace having a 'Manufactured rival' as it seems to be common in the comedy community.
Long straw also was there, and after the show I decided to add postage stamp and long straw to my 'Ring of honor'. I already did a Facebook posting saying how thankful I am for the opportunity to perform tonight, knowing even a guest set is coveted by most comics. In it I spoke of how I visited with the headliner after my set, and eventually I mentioned my former boss and mentor. To me it was no accident, as the two definitely have three things in common. Both are Canadian, both I met in suburban Chicago (though one was while I lived and worked there for nearly 6 years) and both gave me a chance to show off my talents when others wouldn't. I might overdo it on saying 'Thank you', but the sting of failure does make one thankful for any successes. In my set I spoke of getting in the mood to perform by listening to music, specifically Nicki Minaj and Rihanna. Then I told the story of a previous time I was an opening act, back in April for the Big Dog. I also spoke of my dad and telling me about Bob Hope, meeting a panhandler, and some of the nutty people I deal with at the office. It was a great feeling to hear how some crowd members liked my set after the show when I was next to the merchandise table. I spoke with an usher there. Also notable tonight was my likely first meeting with the club owner before the show, who spoke with Bathtub as he is headlining next week. Since Bathtub and his lady make me feel included, especially at a friend's wedding last year, I said I will try to see one of his shows next week.
Postage stamp did ones about driving on two-lane highways, and turning 30. I did film myself tonight, but the final contestant was also filmed as I set it up just before I went on. When Perkins spoke of me during his set, I did yell out 'Manufactured rival'. Headliner did ones about want to slap them like Huck Finn, ruined cole slaw, I'm married things change, Indy cars, built a Gatling gun, Statue of Liberty, gluten free is more, call it Minneapolis, very interactive, cars not good at merging, underwriting insurance, retired people in traffic, saw Subaru in the lot, smell toast, always uppercut, C-section, waffle skin, got our Sundays back, before Internet, that's a benefit, shave club, a doctor office, we're not married, and two vibrators.

Hey Mama, D. Guetta And N. Minaj

When I was driving home tonight I heard on my car radio 'Hey Mama' by David Guetta and Nicki Minaj. I had heard it a few times before, and it is catchy. Notable to me is the line 'I know you want it in the worst way' as I have said this before. Most of the songs Nicki does is good, with the exception of her version of 'Baby got back'. And I know who David Guetta is as he did a song with Rihanna, 'Who's that chick?'
Tonight I went to a baseball game, the Minnesota Twins beat the St. Louis Cardinals 3-1. St. Louis scored first, and the first 2 Minnesota runs were after a throwing error. The third was after a reversed umpire call at first base. It was a big crowd for a weeknight, as it was a crowd of well over 30,000 announced attendance near the end of the game.
After the game I didn't go home right away, as I went in to a comedy club and saw three 'Ring of Honor' members. It was after the show had finished and they were at the bar. I have CDs from all three. One was the Wisconsin guy, another is from Fergus Falls and the third was the headliner, who is Canadian but now lives in Los Angeles. I liked hearing their stories from the road, including hearing how much their CDs go for on the secondary market.

Faraway So Close, U2

When I arrived at the comedy club tonight, I heard the song 'Faraway so close' by U2. I said I hadn't heard it in a while. I had to watch the video on Youtube after the show, and it did bring back more memories. What stood out for me was mention of two American cities- Miami and new Orleans- and then the ending- 'The angel hits the ground'. I did see this band in concert, in St. Louis in 2005. This was on the Vertigo tour. And I do have some of their CDs as well. I recalled my brother when I was young having their 'October' album, and I said 'who is U2?' but they were still largely unknown then. Eventually I did hear more of their music, like 'Sunday Bloody Sunday' from the 'War' album, and of course the big seller, 'Joshua Tree'.
It went fine on the joke telling tonight. A notable one was inspired by my dad telling me about polio- even though the Jonas Salk vaccine has made it a history book item. Another was about the prize I got at the show I just attended over the weekend. Also after the show, I saw a few Facebook messages so I am hopeful about more stage time soon as well as appearing on a podcast. I did get some more travel plans finalized, and it was hard to find a good deal as I wanted to book an 'Award flight'- a free flight due to using miles from my frequent flyer account.
Also at the comedy club tonight, International Falls did ones about IUD pains, tattoos, piercings, suicide women, Mom's Day poem, teen girls texting, and roommate washing dishes. Note page did ones about pizza in squares, cherry pie, moon walk, and magic mushrooms. New Ulm mayor did ones about a kidney stone, can't help it, and now I'm nice. Red did ones about identify as a hamster, having hair like the Little Mermaid, Christ with Las Vegas hookers, Iggy Azalea CD, being excited about Facebook, Hillary Clinton, and Liz Warren. Soap opera did ones about candy bars, Mom angry, confused him with Dad, working at a comic book store, and watching One Life To Live.

Compassion And Choices

I get mail from non-profits that want my money all the time. Today it was from Compassion and Choices, and I have a good idea what they are about from the enclosed survey. It started off with a question about assisted suicide, although it says 'Aid in dying' instead of suicide. And it speaks of a painless, dignified and humane death. Like most of them, I am not contributing anything. I have largely already picked the ones I am supporting.
I also made it to the comedy club tonight. A comic I will call no shame did ones about how she doesn't feel shame, White Castle, no neighbors, what's up skirt, hotels, guys who are useless, and Spanx. Brew did ones about Vicatin, moving is tough, hiding coupons, rolling the dice, skydiving, skittles for dinner, sold drugs in college, 12 year old self, Netflix, using Uber, YWCA, and Star Trek Next Generation. 'Only time' by Enya was playing in the background. A comic I will now call small world, as this song was playing when we performed at the same show a while back, did ones about we're not pregnant, Ponzi scheme, billionaires, and Michele Bachmann. Fish noodle did ones about retire from NASCAR, placebo, and basketball. International Falls did ones about save lives every day, style like yours, no HR 220 days, Prince as emergency contact, moms day poem, dishwashers, the national bird, and Stevie Wonder. Resistable did ones about chose fewer options, Hillary Clinton, quit online dating, and drug testing. Stillwater did ones about a cut-off shirt, a Rambo bandana, Baywatch, Magnum PI, Knight Rider, drinking to stop smoking, highlander, Beatles, Stones, Mozart, and Beethoven. Black flag did ones about double Texas, tie a slipknot, Roots, gas station coffee, astronaut politicians, American History X movie, cocaine, and religion.

Encyclopedia Show

I went to the Encyclopedia Show at a pub in downtown Minneapolis tonight. I wanted to use a certificate I had won at a comedy marathon this year and I knew this was the end of the season. I enjoyed the show as it was intelligent humor. I did know two of those involved with it, 3 by 3 and the ex-wife of the late Bill Young. I recognized 'The reverend', the show's final performer, from the comedy marathon. It was a reminder of seeing somebody who did a speech about Godzilla movies, same guy. He did allude to Godzilla tonight. I liked the video screen behind him as the visuals helped with what he had to say. Like the one where it said 'I am not sorry at all'. I told one performer how I liked one bit as it had been on 'Big Bang Theory', about a cat. I even got stage time tonight, as they asked for audience members who wanted to answer trivia questions, I was one of two. One of them was the song 'Across the universe' as 'Universe' was the theme tonight. I was the prize winner, even though I was mostly guessing I got three out of four. I got a whoopee cushion, I will be counting  it as a comedy souvenir. Both tickets from the certificate got used, at first I announced one being available and Facebook and had a taker but she later said couldn't make it, she was ill. When I arrived a lady next to me got the other ticket, somebody who had seen me perform on a Monday night recently. I also noticed people to and from the show. on the shuttle bus a man spoke of PTSD and getting arrested, and how he will likely lose his paramedic license. Another was on light rail. It was a lady in black pants, black shoes, glasses, cursive capital A tattoo behind one ear, and hair in a bun. the outfit suggested she was going to or from work.
I liked getting things done today. There was dishes, trash, recycle, groceries, and laundry. After having to throw out another pair of socks due to the holes in them, I went to JC Penney and got more. I got four pairs, one of them is patriotic. I used one of two gift cards from my birthday. I was asked if I got them for the Fourth of July, and responded by saying it came down to need more than anything else. But I liked seeing they were available, and of course I already have the patriotic shirt, a good companion to it.

Late Nite Catechism

I went to see 'Late Nite Catechism', a one-woman show, at Plymouth Playhouse this afternoon. Thankful I made it as the show was nearing the end of its run at this venue, the final weekend. I found it to be funny, so I liked finding out a nun can be funny. I arrived about 30 minutes before showtime and bought a ticket then. I was kind of leery to get one in advance online since there was a data breach with their ticket ordering service and it led to my card being re-issued.
There was six items on my list to do, and I liked getting to all of them. First was the post office, I picked up a comedy CD ordered from Amazon. Then it was on to South St. Paul where I made a visit to Pro-X Pharmacy, as it is closing soon. I bought six items, two were food and two were magnets. I turned in change at the bank, over nine dollars, last done in March. Fourth was the library, and I printed some things like my ticket to a baseball game on Wednesday. Fifth was the one-woman show, and sixth was a comedy show. I had heard from school bouncer on Facebook that he would be MC, and a tall comic from Africa would be the 'Middle'. I hadn't seen him in a while. I liked how school bouncer did 'I don't need you' and 'check the fridge'. I didn't know the headliner but he had been on TV apparently.
I saw a link to an article on Facebook about the pharmacy closing, and shared it. The story meant something to me as it is a place that has five Charlie Brown and Snoopy statues, one from each series. Don't know who will acquire all of them, hopefully some will go to a museum. I liked reading the article as it did cover the history of this independent pharmacy, dating back to 1923. It had moved from a different building, into what was a grocery store. The reduced reimbursements on pharmacy orders was given as the culprit, and the owner decided to sell out to Walgreen. It did speak of other pharmacies in Minnesota that had closed, including Snyder. I had bought a few items when Snyder had its liquidation sale. I had heard about it as an office colleague, who is from this town, told me about it. I did get some photos of course.
I like longer sets at non open-mic shows. School bouncer did ones about I'm over here, and I got a shout out. Others were bachelorette party, put a ring on it, text and drive, Redbox rentals, a princess, Mike Tyson, it is sideways, kill you just cause, start a rap beef, and keep him. Middle performer did ones about Chippendale stripper, log swinging, NAACP, African look, a mural, Como Zoo dinner, trailer trash, feed the children, Michael Jackson video, Coon Rapids, traffic ticket, and Joe Clark in Lean On Me. Others were about rap exercises, etch a sketch, tramp stamps, Adrian Peterson, new stadium, Best Buy computers, and what kind of police is the bachelorette?
Headliner did ones about get religious, Roots movie, fact check on Fox News, have a daiquiri, roommates at apartment, how lucky I am, do not have to be Jordan, and B and B for freaks.

Four Inns Restaurant

This was the final day the Four Inns restaurant was open in downtown St. Paul. I went there and had a roast beef sandwich with some chips as well as tea. I got some photos while there. One server said to a patron as they were being seated was that half of the building was empty, explaining a little why the restaurant had decided to close. There was also a potluck in the main break-room at my office, I liked the meatballs in a crock pot as well as the potato salad. In the 4 inns menu I noticed names like bailiff and warden under rules of order, as well as judge and barrister under the classic sandwiches. The Judge sounded like a Reuben, barrister is a triple decker. Chicken strips was bailiff and roast beef was warden. In the evening I heard ELO and Blondie songs in stores.
After the show at the comedy club I spoke with one comic I hadn't seen much lately. I am still trying to understand 'The rules of the game' related to comedy, and I learned some from it. I also spoke with somebody who knew about comedy venues in a city I want to visit this summer, and I was reminded about the hierarchy of needs.
International Falls did ones about casual sex, a Goth outfit, a roommate, dishwasher, and fascist dictator. Long straw did ones about being from from Beloit, 5 years of Scan-Tron tests, dark future, Casey's Stores, a reference to the movie Deliverance, and Carly Rae Jepsen. Rapper did ones about a gas station, doctor appointment, and suspended for rapping. Fever comic did ones about back hair model, cults, and flashlight. Laundry did ones about used hot dogs, dog whistles, and calligraphy. Chalm-Skinn did ones about darts in bar, mediocre life, and one percent. Mr. Pibb did ones about Vaseline, lyric comparisons between Led Zeppelin and Nicki Minaj, Teddy Roosevelt, snowflakes, sex and Ford Focus, C3PO, 3 am by Matchbox 20, and Woody Allen.
Ukulele did ones about GPS settings, haters and intervention, buying a fedora, mouth acne, and a song called there are hands. Postage stamp did ones about call the whole thing off, Green Acres, evolution is boring, and Toy Story. Ragu did ones about red shirt at Target, girl at party, leaf blower, quiet stoner, and Allman Brothers. Bus fare did ones about cat food and cat litter, condoms, Ja-Rule, eggs in basket, Italian clown, dirty Mark Twain, 9/11 tribute, and Hero song. Stillwater did ones about energy drink explosion, weekend brunch, no French toast, breakfast soup, Columbus ships, and backpack. Duffel bag did one about afraid of bees. Soap opera did ones about wear a tie, watching One Life To Live, text message replies, and ex therapists.

Sponges From Family Dollar

After watching 2 'Big Bang Theory' episodes tonight I went out to do some errand running. One of these things was getting more sponges from the Family Dollar store. It was nice to get them two for a dollar, plus tax. I needed more after using the last one on the toilet bowl, which needed to be cleaned after my being ill over the weekend. I also picked up a copy of City Pages, as I saw my regular email which had Turtle Check on the cover as the feature in a 'Life of a comedian' story. It was one of seven 'Ring of honor' members mentioned at least once in the article. The other six included Rut-roh, the Wisconsin couple, Worthington, school bouncer, and a comic who doesn't have a nickname yet. But I have all 3 of his CDs and he is from Fergus Falls if I am not mistaken.
Syndicated rerun of 'Big Bang' was when Sheldon hated having to take vacation time so he ended up spending time with Penny, doing various things including yoga. Howard and Raj took one for the team and went on a date for Amy which was at a rock (geology not music) show. Prime time episode was with Sheldon and Leonard making a breakthrough on a collaboration. Amy did a writing based on her relationship with Sheldon.
It was a good night to look through my comedy notes in my coat, and I was way behind on it. This meant getting many of them taped to a page and into a sheet protector for storage in a binder. It is a nice reminder of how I am writing new jokes much more frequently- and performing more frequently as well. I wrote down a different comedy set each week in this batch, dating back to the end of April.

Shikoku Island League Baseball

I did a half day at work and then walked over to the baseball stadium in downtown St. Paul and saw the Saints play a team from Japan known as Shikoku Island league. The Saints lost 6-0. I did get plenty of pictures there. I am thankful I made it as an international game like this one doesn't happen too often. I answered a survey from Osaka University and got a pen as a gift. Also being handed out were balloons, with plastic at the end where air is added. One of them had a Japan Airlines logo on it. I also got a flyer about tourism to the area, and spoke of pilgrimages, my guess related to religion, the Buddhist faith since one question does mention spiritual preparation. It mentions the Shikoku District transport bureau, then its website and Facebook page, next to smart-phone apps for same. Tourism videos were also shown between innings on the main video board in center field. It did made me think of my college roommate, who has been to Japan twice. First was as an English teacher in Chiba, then on the USS Fitzgerald docked in Tokyo when he was in the Navy. After the game we were able to meet and greet the Japanese players near the main gate, and I got my roster signed there.
In the evening I did make it to the comedy club, and did more stories about music. Most were about my life since I moved to the Twin Cities over a decade ago. The show runner led off with songs that spoke of what do you mean, what do I need?, I need you. It was followed by if you love me, don't let go. Somebody I know from the comedy circuit was there, and we spoke about Wild West figures including Emerson Hough. He did ones about dreams and nightmares. Back to music, as a duo did concrete jungle, now that you are in New York, hear it for New York, lights will inspire you. It was followed by no rest for the wicked, nothing in this world for free. I recognized another as a Jackson Five song- baby give me one more chance, want you back. After me was more music, a saxophone, and instrumental. I also liked hearing somebody sing a cappella, Andrews Sisters Company B, and fever all through the night. Next was a rapper, singing on a hillside, an able mind. It was followed by burgers beans and rice, words like birds, razor sharp, and rich flavor. After the break was don't stop believing, I'm yours, the place I belong, let it be, a song medley and a few I may have missed. Then it was give me one more reason by Tracy Chapman.

Bus Pass Payroll Deduction

The political science guy in my department asked me about my bus pass this afternoon, as he was worried as there was no payroll deduction for his but the pass was still working fine. I don't pay much for mine, it is a good deal as I can also use it on weekends when I am not at work. I also made it to the comedy club tonight, and listened to Brawler holding court after the show. Michigan has a beer cozy, just found this out.
Also at the comedy club, International Falls did ones about casual sex, spooning at open-mic, hole in tights, Goth style tattoos, no HR, Prince as emergency contact, dog rescue, and police dog poem. Note page did ones about Californian, pizza in squares, magic mushrooms, cigarettes and Mountain Dew, and domestic animals. Michigan did ones about bowler hat and hoodies, Dick's sporting goods, Anderson Cooper, Rosie O'Donnell, Mom's Day brunch, and Amy Schumer. He put a beer cozy on my drink and later re-claimed it. Ragu did ones about feeling creepy?, red shirt in Target, Springsteen concert, and loud stoner, quiet drunk. Chalm-Skinn did ones about Random Park, and can-do canines. Brawler did ones about we are not Pokemon, fulfill a craft, switch schools, learn how to fight, and boxing. The crow did ones about mature porn, mashed potato, the twist, Twins players trivia, and ketchup bottles. A comic I will call Soap Opera did ones about One Life To Live, more therapists than exes, HS nicknames, and Dad drove me. Long straw did ones about cultivate foot fetish, Sesame Street, and Carly Rae Jepsen.

Bumble Bee Light Tuna

I didn't go to the comedy club tonight, too tired and I was behind on errand running like grocery shopping. So after I fell asleep in my easy chair for a while after work, I knew I needed to get to the grocery store. One of the things I bought was some Bumble Bee light tuna. I hadn't eaten much today but knew I needed to eat something, and there wasn't any Spam singles like I usually get. The tuna tasted fine, it was in similar packaging to the Spam. But since it is tuna it didn't stay together like the Spam did, so I had to get out a plate for it.
Some might have questioned my wisdom of going into work since I threw up twice this morning. But I hate to miss work. I didn't say word one about feeling ill at the office, figured I didn't need to. And I felt fine after I threw up, go figure. But it was a struggle as I was tired before midday, and it took longer to complete things because I couldn't focus. I noticed I missed two of the contracts I needed to print, so this took more time as well. I had diarrhea and threw up twice last night, so I knew I had to get out the imitation Pepto-Bismol pills I bought at CVS last year. I like how I don't seem to be ill that often or for all that long. I feel fine, I knew it helped to avoid eating much in addition to resting. I had a cinnamon roll this morning, they were available at the office near the front door as it is 'Engagement week'. Aside from this all I had to eat or drink was water until I ate the tuna and cheese in the evening.

Jordan House, West Des Moines

I began the morning in Des Moines, ate at the Village Inn with my dad. After breakfast we checked out of the hotel and said our goodbyes. I decided to go over to West Des Moines and find the Jordan house, it did have plates up stating the National Register of Historic Places designation as well as the Underground Railroad. I got some photos and then I left. I also made it to Valley Junction, where I once lived, and got some pictures of the car show, Ford Mustangs.
In my drive back to the Twin Cities I made two stops, in Clear Lake, IA, and Cannon Falls, MN. I decided to bypass most of I-35 in Minnesota due to fair warning about construction delays. The route I chose was through Rochester. I attended the comedy award show tonight after resting at home for a short time and returning the rental car. Since I no longer have the car, I feel more free to say I found out it had expired plates. I let them know how I didn't like driving it for this reason. It was the first time I am aware of that this happened, but this shouldn't happen at all. I also noticed the mileage on this trip was not accurate when it was checked in, even though I was out of state I didn't drive well over a thousand miles like they claimed. I don't think it was checked in properly from the previous renter. I noticed a rental agreement from another company was left behind.
At the show tonight, I was up for two awards but did not win any. It was no big deal, my first time at this award show and it was an honor just being nominated. I made a joke about somebody who had a video camera strapped to his forehead reminding me of a St. Bernard dog.

Car Wash Token

When I was walking over to the McDonald's for an Egg McMuffin this morning I saw a car wash token on the pavement near my hotel. A sports car is on the front and 'No cash value' is on the back. I am not sure what I will do with it, as I don't do car washes since I just let it rain. I will probably throw it into a wishing well sometime soon.
I did see a classmate later today at his home, after I got a text message this morning. He was at a farmers market with his son. He liked hearing how I do comedy, and he found my Twitter account. His son, who turns three later this year, was given a DVD to stay occupied, the first 'Shrek' movie. He did tell me about running a marathon in Minnesota, in St. Cloud. There was a connection to Garrison Keillor that he spoke of, as I recall the Lake Wobegon name was used. The visit ended when we went to pick up his wife, who I think was at a speaking engagement. He recommended a bar I did eat at for lunch, the High Life Lounge, near the baseball stadium. I liked the way it was decorated with plenty of old beer signs, and I got pictures of many of them. Some of them were Hamm's and Schlitz, and of course they did have some for Miller, as the name would suggest since the place is called High Life.
The Iowa Cubs game with my dad was in the evening, Memphis beat them 7-2. The I-Cubs pitcher didn't last long as he was walking too many batters, and was gone after three innings. Memphis was  ahead 6-0 by then. Dad liked seeing how a group of Little Leaguers from Lucas County were in our section, as he likes any reminder of southern Iowa. He talked a lot during the game, made it harder to pay attention and keep score but I did the best I could.

Funny Bone Des Moines

I headed out of town for the weekend, after picking up mail at my PO Box this morning. After I checked into my hotel, I made it to see a comedy show at the Funny Bone in Des Moines, actually in West Des Moines, not far from my hotel. This was after a quick visit of my hometown of Newton. The visit to Newton included finding the Wittemberg Church and Cemetery, which in the past year got a national designation for being on the Underground Railroad. The church was locked up as it was closed back in November, but I understand it was bought by a non-profit and can be rented for events. I noticed there was somebody over at the Wittemberg Grange building, and I spoke to this woman for a while, she lives there as it was converted into a house. She did give me a publication that wrote about the building. We spoke for a while as I liked hearing about the history of the area, and it sounds like I went to school with her niece who now lives in Minnesota like I do, but way up north in Bemidji. I liked how she told me about one tombstone there, an obelisk, was for somebody who was assassinated after the Civil War ended. So now I have something to look up. I did have some ice cream at the Dairy Queen, and went over to Emerson Hough School. I noticed one of the bricks from when the fort and playground existed was given by my football coach, so I did take a picture of it. At some point it likely means adding some of the Newton pictures to my Facebook albums.
The MC at the comedy show was from Omaha, feature from New York, and the headliner from Kansas City. I asked the headliner if he ever has Twin City gigs, sounds like he has worked with Mason City before. I learned how comedy isn't much different based on where you go, as it is about living life. It was even what I said about seeing a show in Great Britain. The themes of many of the jokes I heard tonight were familiar, such as weed, living with parents, cocaine, going to a Ren-Fest, Walmart, condoms, and callbacks to some earlier jokes.

Squirt Gun Attack

I had heard some jokes at the comedy club about the recent squirt gun and water balloon attack on a pedal pub as one comic did a Facebook post about it. I watched WCCO 6pm news tonight and it said the first court appearance for most of the defendants was earlier today. I think the Fly Show was also going to have something about it according to their promos- apparently an interview with the mastermind behind it. I didn't watch  it as I had other things to do. I did take a walk around the neighborhood and took 6 carts back to the grocery store. This was after watching 2 episodes of 'Big Bang Theory'. Syndicated rerun was when Howard serenaded Bernadette after she was quarantined in the hospital. Prime time episode was when Amy kicked out Sheldon as he wouldn't stop working or take off a smelly hat. Then Penny and Leonard sang 'Soft kitty' to get him to go to sleep. I did get some souvenirs in binders, including the lyrics from last week's music video. I also got stamps from Italy and Costa Rica onto a page, these were from recent E-bay and Amazon orders. I got one last look at the baseball exhibit at midday at the Landmark Center, it is closing soon. All that was left to see was the 10-minute video, mostly an interview with Buck O'Neil. He had a story about hitting for the cycle in Memphis and then meeting his wife shortly after it. He purposely held up at third so he would get the triple he needed. I voted for myself in both categories that I was nominated in for the upcoming comedy awards. It will be Sunday evening. I am thankful I checked Stillwater's page to find out specifically when and where. Now it is a Facebook invite, easier for me to keep track of it.

A Flat Miner

At the comedy club tonight, 'A flat miner' was the punch-line on the question of what happened when one throws a piano down a shaft. With my set I continued to tell my story through music. I left off with playing Pearl Jam and Gin Blossoms in my head to keep myself calm at college graduation. Then it continued on with songs that marked the time when I moved to suburban Chicago, and then when I left for the Twin Cities. This included something from the movie Good Will Hunting, then something from Maroon 5 and Indigo Girls. Then there was the Anna Nalick song nailing how I feel as a writer and comic with '2am/breathe'.
It was raining at midday so I walked around the skyway and did not go outside. For the Wii walk or dancing in the late afternoon we still were doing a skyway walk. There was some rain again in the evening, but it ended before I left for the comedy club.
Also at the comedy club, I liked hearing all of the music. The show runner started off with ones having lyrics like 'don't let me break, don't let me crack' as well as 'it's not nothing, cuz I'm feeling something'. This was followed by 'take me down, little suzie', 'no woman, no crime' and then one I did recognize, 'Wagon wheel'. Then there was 'Angel of Harlem', 'Remedy', and 'any way you want it' by Journey- these three I think were all recorded and not played onstage. Others by the show runner were 'told you to be patient, kind', 'all your love is wasted', and 'who will fall behind'. I recognized 'Heart shaped box' by Nirvana, 'Dock of the bay', and 'Black' by Pearl Jam. Another performer did ones about 'blue chip baby', 'took my keys locked the door', 'walk along the avenue', and 'ran so far away, couldn't get away'. Others I recognized were 'Mother Mother', 'My baby don't mess around', and 'Killing me softly'.

Jesse Owens

I made another visit to the baseball exhibit at midday and saw mention of Olympic athlete Jesse Owens there. It was something about how he raced a horse at a baseball game in the Twin Cities. To some it was demeaning, as it was after his 'Showed Hitler' performance at the Olympic Games in Berlin. There is not much left for me to see now, a 10-minute video including Buck O'Neil is all. It also reminds me of a song I heard when I was young, asking 'Where have all the heroes gone?' and it mentioned Jesse Owens.
At the comedy club tonight, most of my jokes were about visiting St. Louis over the weekend, including being asked to take a 'Selfie' at the baseball game. The jokes were doing well, though it meant doing fewer of them. I got to just half of those on my list, usually it is all but one. After the show I heard on my car radio 'Let's go crazy' by Prince. I recalled it being quoted at the start of Bill Young's wedding.
Also at the comedy club, International Falls did ones about a sleep walking poem, street harasser, and 12 pounds of coffee. Long Straw did ones about develop a foot fetish, social anxiety disorder, flip off a kid, Carly Rae Jepsen, and who let the dogs out. Brew did ones about a Tale of Two Cities, school nurse, 12 year old me, student loans, roll dice, Taco Bell, and the YWCA. The Crow did ones about mature porn, Rock Bottom brewery, Tuna Helper, Pop Tarts, You Oughta Know, and 16 and beautiful. Woody did ones about inside voice, ATM password, debt collector, and a recovering alcoholic. A high energy comic did ones about being Lutheran, verify voice, so called energy bill, kale, Caitlyn Jenner, and tried to quit drinking. Grizzly did ones about humpback whales, coffee taste, and vasectomies. Fish noodle did ones about a prom lock-in, moon facts, non sequitur, Will Ferrell, riding bus, and expired plates. Chalm-Skinn did ones about walking a cat, black eye at Christian music festival, Beastie Boys song, karaoke, and a Sean Connery impression.

Award Nominations

I get to the comedy club tonight and it was news to me about being nominated for some awards. I understand the two are for my laugh and the blog. I am not sure about the ring of honor song done being done by Stillwater and laundry. Maryland spoke to two women tonight, notable was how one of them had tattoos on both thighs.
Also at the comedy club, there was one comic I hadn't seen in a wile. He did ones about being African, and a nurse. Postage stamp did ones about turning 30, we published it, Buddha, crusty spaghetti, that's a lady, and who's on first. Olive Garden did this one along with comics have pain, lick the table, and bubble wrap. Louisiana did ones about best buy rewards, bullet point, being arrested, booking, therapist, and multiple lives. Radio Personality did ones about get a puppet, apple orchard, house guests, sunflower seeds, cargo pants, and a crazy mom. Sub Teacher did ones about boundaries, baby cougar, VBS, rapture, air hockey, and demon metal cage. Maryland did ones about tragic flaw, loyalty, apartment fire, friends on Netflix, high horse, ho's, and femi-ninjas. Tetris did ones about City Pages, Windows 95, anxiety, zoos, penguin, free pizza, and cursed belt. Fever Comic did ones about puke on plane, cults, legal need, and Las Vegas strip clubs. School Bouncer did ones about confidence wall, hip hop tattoo, Bruce Jenner, and wells in Africa. Extra Murder did ones about a food truck fest, donut burger, two bears, subway, and debt collector. Bathtub did ones about a recurring dream, San Andreas movie, barrel of monkeys, stolen baby, meal upgrade, Domino's, marinara, and a squirrel water skiing.
It was a typical Monday at work. One email was from a colleague whose last day was on Friday, when I was out of the office. She would like to see me perform comedy sometime.
