staircase metaphor

I began the day at my hotel in des moines, iowa, as I was in town to attend my uncle's funeral. I arrived at the venue kind of early and decided to look around and found plenty of art on the walls. I liked the caption there, about the 'staircase metaphor' was in reference to overcoming fear. I like seeing metaphors as I use them in writings often. I learned something about my uncle from the obit, it said he once owned a gas station. I mainly knew about his later jobs, such as working for firestone. I liked visiting with my cousin's 2 kids while we were at the luncheon. one of them said she didn't know what to talk about, and then I helped her with ideas. she asked me things like my favorite cartoon, I of course say it's charlie brown and snoopy. there was military honors at the cemetery, 'taps' was played. but not a 21-gun salute. not long after it was over I was back on the road, as I knew I had things to do at home. when I arrived home it was mid-evening, and I called the office. I was informed that there is work on Friday, so this thrills me. then I checked email and not long after getting home I went to sing at a karaoke bar. I did 'you can't always get what you want' by the beatles. then I had 2 'weird interactions with the general public'. one of them said I sang well, then said he wanted money, and I turned him down. the other tried to make a point about bill murray being a part owner of the st. paul saints baseball team, and I said he doesn't run the saints. I get bored with hearing that factoid, lost count of how often I've heard it.
