text about dad

before midday i got a text from my sister, saying my dad was in the hospital for surgery. broken ankle, slipped on the ice. sounds like he will be fine. i wondered why a cast wasn't enough. i called Dad in the evening and we spoke for 15 minutes. he wanted to know how i spent the holidays. no surprise, eventually i spoke of performing. i said 'i feel so alive while performing'. i will likely get some comedy material out of hearing about Dad, but still not sure what. i know this wasn't the first time I heard about an injury though.
this was a night where i know performing meant more to me. it is always there when i want to work through things in my life. i did 3 songs at the karaoke bar. it was 'sound of silence' by simon and Garfunkel, 'give a little bit' by supertramp, and 'head over feet' by alanis morissette.  i also was a winner of a free drink, first time that has ever happened. in many ways i think the alanis selection was a good one. she sings directly into the camera, and basically admits to being a 'hot mess'. i like the honesty in it. i have said that some people i know are, but at times i know i am a 'hot mess' too. of course the alanis song makes me think of 'nothing compares to you' by sinead O'Connor, as she sings directly into the camera as well. i also thought of 'i feel so alive' by POD, as well as 'hymn for the weekend' by coldplay. the latter was one i heard while driving home tonight. another one on my mind was 'bird set free' by sia. plenty more songs i can do on karaoke night.
i had just left the post office, checking my box, when the text arrived. i had some errands to run, the next being the gas station. then getting photos of a billboard at the former Schmidt brewery, as there was mention of re-lighting the grain belt beer sign. then on to the library to print some things. i had an appointment with a temp agency in the afternoon, not sure when i will be placed though. i did two tests, data entry and typing, was told i did well on both. but i still need to bring forms of ID and a voided check to them, something i can do the next day.
