Mary Elizabeth Lease

When I saw a posting on Facebook about a comedian friend doing a name change, it made me think of somebody I learned about in history class in high school. She was Mary Elizabeth Lease, who was from the American Populist era, the late 19th century. She urged Kansas farmers to 'Raise less corn and more hell!' It was a big deal to see this word in my history book. The Wikipedia page suggests this quote may have been invented by the media. Another thing mentioned was how she may have been the inspiration for the Dorothy character in 'Wizard of Oz'. Of course they mean the book series. This is possible, since it is known to be a satire of Populist politics. It also spoke of how she was divorced, in a time when divorces didn't happen much, and when women couldn't vote.
I went to the comedy club tonight, and I spoke with three times three after the show and we really hadn't spoken at length much before. He was given a business card so he can now find the blog, as he was informed about it and his name there. I also saw the front-woman for the band 'Dirty curls', as she asked me to help with getting posters displayed to promote an upcoming comedy festival. I already have some ideas on where I can display them. I didn't count how many I was given just yet.
